The House was built in 1748 by Hendrick Van Allen, a Dutch settler who came to New Jersey in 1683. The house is a two-story, five-bay frame dwelling with a gambrel roof and a center hall plan. The interior of the house has been restored to its 18th-century appearance and contains original features such as fireplaces, wide plank floors, and beamed ceilings.
