Franklin Lakes, NJ, June 10th, 2009 – PTS Data Center Solutions today announced that the company’s principals president Pete Sacco and vice president Michael Petrino, were featured in an article for Processor.com titled, “Smart Air Management & Circulation: Best Practices To Keep Increased Thermal Loads From Stressing Room Air Systems”. Processor.com is a leading trade publication that provides updates on the latest news and trends for IT professionals in the data center industry.
Published June 5th, 2009 (Vol. 30, Issue 16, Page 27 in print issue), this article discusses smart air management and circulation solutions in the data center. Processor.com called upon PTS’ lead data center design experts to give their expert insight on this common problem in the data center. Lead principal and president of PTS, Peter Sacco, stresses that the best way to understand and optimize a room’s distribution and temperature profile, is by using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations along with centralized, automated environmental monitoring. Principal and vice president of PTS, Michael Petrino, also an expert on this topic quotes, “Airflow problems have a number of causes, including poor cabinet layout, bypass airflow from cold to hot aisles due to inadequate separation, improper placement of vented floor tiles, and cable clutter constricting air paths”. In a secondary piece to the article titled, “Biggest Improvement: Prevent Airflow Spillover”, Sacco advices caution before installing strip curtains as a solution to prevent air mixing and spillover from cold to hot areas due to the fact they may block fire suppression equipment, such as sprinklers. However, Sacco recommends overlapping thermal strip curtains between rows at the end of each aisle as a particularly effective technique in conjunction with in row cooling.
Other featured commentators who give their insight on hot aisle/cold aisle configurations include Roger Jette, CEO of Snake Tray, and Zach Wilson, executive vice president at NetStructures. To read the full article, please visit www.processor.com
